Penguin Books student competition presented three books in which we could choose to design a cover for. I chose the children's book Goodnight Mister Tom. This children's book is set during WW2 and shows a young character called William Beech being evacuated to the countryside. I took inspiration from a chapter where William and a group of other young people go blackberry picking, and its the first time William feels as though he has friends, which is an exciting and pivotal moment in the book where he starts to open up and talk to others, after being nervous and awkward to begin with.
